Projects

Upon assuming its duties, the Apesia Community Council immediately started planning in order to upgrade the village and its contribution to the villagers, both in services as well as in infrastructure works.

Completed projects:

  1. Ancient monuments, which require immediate repairs/ restoration and projection, have been detected. Some of the monuments are the following:
Α. The Venetian basin which has been declared as an ancient monument with the cooperation of the Department of Antiquities.
Β. The traditional Olive-mill, which belongs to the church and has been rented by the Community Council so that the latter will be able to conduct any necessary works in cooperation with the Community Council.

    C. The Terebinth, which has been elevated and projected as the oldest age-long tree of Cyprus and is protected by the Department of Forests.
  2. The change of the water supply network in the entire community.

  3. Construction of a larger water tank to increase the water storing capacity to 500 tonnes and the transfer of water from the spring of “Arkolahania” as a result of the increased demand.

  4. The construction of the Community Park, a project which has been funded by the European Funds, measure 1.3.1 and which cost £399.813.

  5. The Old School building has been repaired (built in 1911) and the yard has been beautified.

  6. MASTER PLAN

This plan has been prepared by the Department of Town Planning and Housing. Based on this plan, six priority projects have emerged:
Α.  Creation of an access and entrance to the community.
Β.  Reshaping of a public space in the Traditional Core.
    C.  Formation of the square and garden around the church of Agia Zoni.
    D. Formation of a square around the old school.
Ε. Formation of a route for walking
    F. Creation of a scenery study path and a viewing spot.

  7. Garbage Collection Service twice a week. Large bins have been placed in all roads.

  8. Purchase of a skip which is placed somewhere in the community and in which the residents can put large objects such as refrigerators, washing machines, chairs and generally objects that the garbage track cannot collect, so that they would not be disposed in other parts of the community causing pollution.

  9. COMMUNITY LIBRARY
At the council office operates a community library with 200 volumes (encyclopaedias, novels, poems and religious books). A lending department also operates.

  10. COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE
It operates every Monday and is staffed by a doctor, a nurse and a chemist.

Planned projects:

  1. BYPASS ROAD
Many cars pass by the core of the community on a daily basis and for this reason it has been decided that a road is constructed in which traffic will be diverted outside the community. The planning for the construction of the bypass has been prepared by the District Administration of Lemesos under instructions of the Ministry of Interior and the project is exclusively under the responsibility of the government.

  2. CREATION OF A MUSEUM
Ancient objects have been discovered in the community from time to time. These have been transferred to the district Museum of Lemesos to be recorded and maintained. After actions were taken by the council towards the Department of Antiquities, it has been decided that some of the objects will be given to the community and be placed in display cases in the room next to the Olive mill so that a small museum is created.

  3. ROAD HUMPS
Two road humps, which will cost €12.000, will be constructed in the road outside the primary school. The expenditure will be covered by the Department of Public Works.

  4. REGISTRATION OF RURAL ROADS
There is an ongoing procedure for the registration of all rural roads as public.

  5. MULTI-POWERED CENTRE
The above project has arisen within the Master Plan and for this reason the Community Council has been trying to locate a piece of land for sale so that they could build a multi-powered centre. This will include services and social contact halls for residents of all ages, such as a children care centre, a youth centre, an elderly persons’ centre, an ICT room, a library, a cultural centre etc.
